Fascinating. I think the most interesting thing I found about the video was the statement at the beginning that he was carving a "Water Saturated" block of popular. That fact is what makes the wood carve like soft butter. A lot of us use that same method by spraying on a 50/50 mixture of alcohol. it does make the wood more mailable. While those shoes are beautiful.....we have a pair we picked up in Holland years ago....I'd sure hate to wear them. Maybe thats the true reason "New Amsterdam" was founded here many years ago.....they left the homeland in search for a more comfortable pair of shoes!

My mother described wearing them when she was a girl. They were warm but prone to splitting and cracking when mistreated. Made for a long cold winter if they split. A big advantage is that the shape could be customised for the wearer something I would find useful as I have rather broad feet.

Fascinating video. As Tom Ellis mentioned. The tools were very interesting to see in use.

Three pair a day. I think it would take me three days per shoe. Excellent video. I know a couple people who have worn wooden shoes and they say they are quite comfortable because they are custom fitted.

Thanks for posting the link. That was a great video. It's very interesting to see what different tool people use and how they use them to achieve their desired result.

I have a pair of custom made wooden shoes, that I picked up in the Netherlands. I really did not need them, but I wanted to watch the old fella make them. They are very comfortable indeed as he test fitted them on me about 5 times. I was amazed at how fast he worked and with such precision. I guess when you have done the same thing for 50 years you better get good.
