Default Wood Question (Probably a dumb one)

I am looking at varoius pieces of hardwood on eBay, and many have descriptions which include 'S1S,' or, 'S2S,' or 'S4S,' etc. What does this mean? ???

Thanks!

Surfaced on one side, surfaced on two sides, three sides, etc. Generally it is planed on those indicated sides and the others may be rough cut in varying degrees.

Blackdog,
Have you never heard that there is no dumb question only the one you were afraid to ask. That is one thing about this group there is so much expertise that someone will have the answer. If it makes you feel any better I wouldnt have had a clue what that meant either.

Thanks for the kind words Colin. I just figured that this was a common phrase, as it appears on so many eBay listings. AlArchie, thanks for defining this for us.

In my business (Logistics) there are so many acronyms that sometimes it seems possible to carry on a conversation with a colleague without having to utter a real word. Those unfamiliar with these acronyms would have no idea. Sometimes efficiency has it's downsides. :P
