Default Wood furniture

Hello to everyone!
I am work on Table and chairs set for dining room:
Table: 1m (width) x 72cms (height) x max. 2.4m (length); without extension 1.6m (length); four legs @ corners
Chairs: High back, fabric-covered seat.
Which type of wood will be suited for it.

Hi Marco,

What grows locally? Almost any type of wood that grows large enough to get boards from could be used. The only real limitations would be availability/price. Chairs are usually made from hardwood. So many stunning woods you could use it's completely whatever you find most appealing. If I were making a new table/chairs I would explore both cherry & pine, but that's just me.

It really depends on you or your wife's preference to color. I agree to using a hardwood. If the table & chairs are to be painted, I'd suggest poplar. It's used in most furniture for under the covers framing. It takes paint well but can be PITA to stain (I'd strongly recommend a sanding sealer first). I personally like Oak, Cherry, Hickory and my favorite is Elm (just love the grain pattern). If your decor is rustic or early American, I'd suggest Pine, Hickory, Elm or Oak. If victorian - go her either Cherry, Qtr sawn Oak or Mahogany. Modern - go with the Poplar & paint it.
