Default Wood Carving Basics Book and DVD- Get it!

Hello Carvers!

Dave Sabol, who has been featured many times in past issues of WCI, has just released a book and DVD entitled "Wood Carving Basics". I've purchased both items and strongly recommend this combo for the carving community. The book is well done, great photos, graphics, tips section, and an attractive font. The DVD is a great companion to the book. It is shot in Dave's studio and he does the video unscripted. So you get the feel that you are actually in his studio and he is talking to you! Also, you get the feel that Dave is having fun with the carving projects and he wants you to have fun also!

Right now, you can pick up both at a discount from Amazon (below is a link to the book, you will have to search for the DVD). Get it now, you will not regret it!

He's always been one of my favorites. What kind of project(s) does he do in the book/DVD?

Hi Gary, Ordered the Book and DVD yesterday From Amazon, they had it on sale plus I had a $10.00 gift cert. so the both cost $27.72, free shipping. Not a bad price, now I hope they are as good as you recommend, I'm sure they are. Shipping is kind of slow. Supposed to receive them March 15th. Thanks, Merle

Merle,

That is great, I love Amazon gift certificates and I know you will love the book and DVD combo!

John,

To answer your questions, Dave does a variety of projects including a caricature carving, relief carving of a wolf, relief carving of a landscape, sign carving, decoy carving, chip carving (both basic and a free form carving of a frog), a power carving of a rabbit and bark carving. The projects are creative and fun!

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

I purchased the David Sabol DVD and it is first rate. I highly recommend it. It is an overview of many forms of carving.

I did not get the companion book and I am wondering if I should. Any thoughts? Will it add to the DVD?
Thanks,
Manteo
