Default Won't be carving for awhile.

I just got the word from the wife that I need to stop carving for awhile and get some painting done. I guess she's right, I just looked over the pile of stuff I have to paint and found 2 rocking santa's 2 waving santa's, 1 backpack Santa, 1 curly beard Santa, one 8" knome, and one 12" elf.

I guess I'll have to retire the knife and break out the brushes. I sure wish I could get the wife ( she's a good artist) to do the painting. That's the part I don't care for.

That's what I have been doing for the past 2days, I had a stockpile of carvings to paint.

Paul, you are not alone at all. I probably have 20 finished and unpainted carvings sitting on my work bench, I just don't enjoy painting. Make the best of it, have fun painting.

You might try to get the wife involved by asking her how to paint something-- or how to apply the paint--how to shade it-- well you get the idea. i wish i had someone who would paint for me. a good paint job can take a good carving and make it POP. a poor paint job can kill a good carving (or atleast thats the excuse i use).

A little over a year ago I told myself that as soon as I finished a project I would paint it. Unfortunately I found I have a tendency to lie to myself and I have a whole bunch of carvings and a wife and daughter and son all who refuse to paint them for me
Woe is me

I have a strong dislike for painting - I bet I have 50 pieces 'waiting' to be painted.

I'm surprised my husband hasn't told me to put carving a side for a while and clean the house! He he! haven't seen the kitchen table and half the counter for quite some time because of the piles of unfinished projects, tools, dust, chips and pieces of wood! And that's just the kitchen.

Skip the paint, let the wood and your cuts speak for themselves. couple coats of tung oil will do just fine.....

I agree with Blfo above. Except I use Liseed oil with a little yellow ochre oil paint mixed with it. Just put it on the whole thing and let it dry. Gives an "old European" woodcarving look.

Talked the wife into putting down her sewing and start painting 12 years ago. Seamstress work was getting to stressful for her and she enjoys painting a lot more. I have not painted one since.
