I really enjoyed reading where everybody is from.....But what i'm more curious about is how did some of the unusual nicknames come about? I chose my name because ....... i haul gravel. Sometimes. At least i was the day i signed in. I like lots of different types of carving and enjoy the message board a lot. Gravel Girl From West Virginia |

I also drive truck (semi- tractor trailer ) and when driving in the bigger cities a person can become aggitated over some of the STUPID things that the general driving public concieves as normal driving. ( like not using turn signals and just slamming on the brakes because they think YOU should know where they are going) Anyway, a lady that I worked with started calling me GRUMPY bacause I was always griping about the way people drive. |

I am new to carving and still not smart enough to follow Grumpy's advise about a carving glove. So you can here my name shouted loudly as I find a mistake or the end of a finger with a gouge. Only once in a while.Ah Chip |

Got my name from the fact that I started carving without a glove and finger guards. Beginners take a note: Basswood will absorb blood EXTREMELY fast and you will always bleed on an area that cannot be re-carved or easily sanded.

Â* Â* Hey Captain, the way basswood absorbs blood is why I started out carving santa's. Just think of the money I saved on RED paint. |

Rando, that truck is just a 350 Chevy with a dump bed. It is a neat little truck though. When i want to ride in something big, i drive my Case 680 backhoe.I bet Rando is short for Randy or Randall. |

Right Rando, My husband says if he kacks out i'll have to beat the guys off with a stick. Yeah, sure, cause they will be after the tools.... But as to carving.....and by the way, thank you for asking. I've done (attempted) every type of carving. Gunstocks, chains, relief, chainsaw carving, walking sticks. Was big into bird carving for awhile. I have got the most satisfaction from chainsaw carving, but don't do it very often because it is so exhausting. My biggest carving started out at 3 tons, it is probably half that now and still in progress. Talent will take you farther than tools, but with big projects, the tools sure help. I have 3 chainsaws, Arbortech and Arbortech mini grinder, a Woodhog grinder, Foredom, Geswein and Detail master from when i used to do birds. I have really enjoyed reading so much good information from such a variety of carvers. It is good to know there are so many carvers from all over. |
