Default WIP Butternut Man

I have seen WIP and found them interesting, never thought I would be doing one but here goes, any comments are welcome. The wood is Butternut and is 2 pcs. 3"x6"x7". The piece is 6"x6"x7", had to glue 2 pcs. together because my saw doesn't cut that large. So far I like the way Butternut carves. Before gluing I cut the front profile then traced it on the back piece, cut it out then glued them together. Couldn't use saw for side profile [ to big],used big Gouge, went pretty easy. Got picture from Sister in Calif. and made pattern from that. Hope this little venture turns out OK. Merle

Nice work so far, Merle. I'm definitely on board with carving butternut. I've done a couple minature and a full size decoy with the stuff as well.

Keep us posted. I'm really liking how expressive his face is even this early on!

Mark
