Default Wind spirit in mulberry

I got a new set of gouges and was looking around for some wood to mutilate. This mulberry tree faces north and was encroaching on the bean field so I felt like it was fair game, also mulberry can take a little abuse. I carved his beard sweeping east as if the cold northwest wind is blowing. I'll leave him here to guard the place this winter while I slip down to south America. Life aint fair when your a poor old mulberry tree. I couldn't find any sikkens at the hardware store so I settled for Thompsons water seal with UV protection and mildewcide any of you tree carving experts have any thoughts on this I'd appreciate hearing from you. Its my first tree carving so I don't know what to expect to happen to it over time. I'm busy carving him a girlfriend in a black walnut a few trees down. Feedback is always welcome.

I need to dig his pupils out deeper. He's supposed to be looking west while his beard blows east but I can't even see where I carved pupils. Carvings not the
time to get timid.

Hey Matt great job there, he also looks like he has some sunscreen on his nose lol. No idea about the live tree thing never carved any while they are still standing yet.

Hi Matt,

Nice job on the tree carving. Never did anything like it so nothing to add, except fix the pupils.

Very good, Matt. I expecially like that mouth. I'm glad you said something about the pupils.....that will really give him some life.

Joy, Ron, I'm on those eyes first thing tomorrow! Barring rain. Three brilliant carvers like us can't be wrong!
Thanks Mark!
Yeah Carl, that young wood never got the tan that the older wood got, left brow, nose and beard are all good examples of that. kind of weird. Thanks everyone for checking him out.

All the color changes make for a striking effect Matt. Eyes later. Be waiting to see him done up. Of course you will need to take pics every year and remind us to look. Perhaps put a gallery album here to put in updated pics so we can see the progression. Nice work. John
