Sometime last week I was in the computer room at school (college) and I happen to catch an eye of someone else's screen as they were shutting down. Everyone has probably seen pictures or carvings of the "circular" stairway that never ends and / or the waterfall that always feeds itself more water. Well, what I saw (and the info that I could gather) was a fairly small piece of wood - 3 to 4 inches square x 1 inch thick - and the roughout blank it came from. The blank had two holes pre-drilled to help facilitate the carving. The finished piece was likened to a piece of ribbon, rolled over on itself at the corners and also "neverending". I believe that somewhere in the name was the word "knot". I also believe that the website it was on was more business oriented than amateur. Can anyone help me to find the name of the "whittling" or the website I saw it on? Thank you very much. |

Sounds like what you saw was a Mobius Strip. You can make an example with a piece of paper. Cut a length wise strip. Give it a half twist and glue the ends together. Do a search on google images for examples.

Thank you very much Doris and Ed. Doris I'm in love...(jk) when I went to the page you suggested it was THE page I had seen. I have to thank Ed for the name because when I came to check on any possible replies I ended up starting at the bottom of the page and so found Ed's first and as soon as I saw the name he gave it I knew I was in the right place. Thank you both - again. |
