Not sure what a steel worrior is but truly does not matter. When whittlin use a shorter blade knife (preferred more control) that holds a good edge(I use a Barlow). Learn first to sharpen & strop, loads of info here, do a search. Start with any found wood piece, and find the woodspirit. P.S. Keep carvin till you find him! You'll stay warm with the kindlin!

Most carvers on this forum will use knives designed for carving. A lot of front porch "whittlers" will use a pocket knife to do some whimsical things. You might want to check with one of the dealers like Little Shavers to pick up a set designed for beginners. It would include a knife and several palm type tools that would help you get started. One great source for carvers is to buy and subscribe to the Woodcarving Illustrated Magazine.

The Barlow triggered a pleasant experience I’d like to share
I’ve always been a knife lover and own ‘more than a few’
Couple years ago I remodeled a bathroom that was built back in the early fifties. I took it down to the studs and found a Barlow inside an orignal wall. Cleaned up real well, blade is a tad pitter from rust but took and holds a good edge.

Larry,
I just bought a Case XX for less than $10 at Lowes that feels real good.
