Default Whitetail Deer and group of five.

For a five door hutch. The wood is Alder.

Well, here's the deer. Now I have 20 corner pieces with incised carving (almost free-form chip carving) to do. Also a group shot of all five pieces together.

Softer than Basswood, harder than Pine. Sort of coarse grained. Requires sharp tools to cut cleanly. It's a common wood in the Southeast. A secondary wood for furniture construction. Sometimes used as a substitute for Birch solids, the color and grain patterns are similar. Used mostly in cabinet construction.
