Default Whimsy?

Been a slow week carving wise, so decided to try my hand at one of those "impossible" whimsies, it's a bit rough but it was more in the way of an experiment. So here it is, the arrow is just over 6" and the heart is 3"H x2"W x1"thick. I think it is ok, but the arrow should have been long enough to allow folk to prove to themselves that the shaft isn't joined in the centre, which most people seem to think is the obvious answer......Ah well, next time................
Regards
John

Very cool! That looks like a pretty good challenge. Got any tips on carving that?

That's a great job, John.

To the others: I saw a tutorial on doing something like this before. It involved drilling a hole that's slightly larger than the shaft, soaking the carved arrow head in water so that it will compress, squeezing it in a vice, and then pushing it through the hole. Then soak the tip some more so that it will re-expand.

Now where did I put that link ... ?

nice job. Carve out one side like a bowl deep enough to show the shaft, and people can see it is one piece.

I thinking about trying one of these. Can you ellaborate on the soaking and compression steps?
