Default Which is best finish

Just finished indian in catalpa wood, 22 high 9 wide. I've been using burnt umber oil paint and turp followed by dark paste wax. I like this peice the way it looks now. how should I seal it and what should I use for a clear finish, Deft satin or poly clear or something different. FEB

I'll speak for Lynn <GRIN>
He prefers clear poly because of it's durability.

Other carvers have their own preference: Deft, boiled linseed oil, linseed oil, tung oil, shellac.

They all have their pros and cons. But you can't really go wrong with Deft or clear poly.

Thanks, I think I'll try the clear poly. Let you know what I think. Should I use a clear wax over it. FEB

feb,

you could use howards feed and wax, it is a good wax made of orange oil and carnuba wax.
