Default Wheelmaker

I finally got a carving finished. Hopefully more are in the near future.

A friend of mine, among other things, makes spinning wheels. They are fabulous wheels. This statue is for him. It depicts him holding a spoke for a wheel in one hand, and a woodturning gouge in the other hand. It is 8 inches high including the base. I will see him this weekend and give it to him. I am hoping he likes it.

Helpful criticism and comments welcome!

Larry, Fred, Eric, Kris, Bob, Merle and Oscar, thanks so much for taking the time to comment on the carving.

Larry the gouge was fun. I turned it, and then used gold and silver leaf on the metal parts. There gouge is actually "U" shaped, although that doesn't show in the pictures.

Oscar, I am in Mt. Angel, OR. Right in the heart of the Willamette Valley. We have been in Oregon for only four years. I'm still finding my way around. Sure is beautiful here. We moved from Michigan, so the winters here are wonderful. I haven't been to Klamath Falls yet. Folks say it is definitely a place to have on the list of destinations. Some day!!

Question Re: Wheelmaker

So, would that make him a 'cooper'? Or is a cooper a person that only makes barrels?
