Default Whats next?

Now that the Santa 'rush' is over and the New Year begins, what is on everyones carving agenda? Will some of you keep on carving Santa's for next year? Do some of you carve other holiday carvings? What about other carving projects, what do you have planned?

Anything new you'd like to learn in this coming year? Shows or teaching classes you wish to attend? How about competitions, got a few in mind for this year?

HI Marci,

I hope to attend a woodcarving rendevous in late February in Florida, but that is still not in the budget, so will be a last minute thing if I do get to go.

I'm also starting a woodcarvers gathering in February here at my gallery in North GA. So far, we have 6 interested woodcarvers and 1 stone carver. I hope to make it a once a month gathering. Good response so far.

As far as my next project....I have just today returned to one that I started before the holidays and hope to finish soon.
It is a sign for me to use when I demonstrate showing different styles of carving done in the Viking and Celtic era with a greenman in the mix as well. It will be painted when it is done, and then I will hang strings of glass beads from the holes along the curved edge on the bottom. I am carving it out of basswood and it measures 12" X 22" X 1".

This year, my goals are to learn how to carve acanthus leaves without being intimidated by them, and to learn how to carve with a chainsaw!

Marci, you didn't answer your own questions.....
Thor

Starting on my 2006 Santa patterns. Finishing up some 2005 orders. CLEAN the shop. And maybe finish building the chopper motorcycle I started a year ago. Did I mention clean the carving shop. Anybody need wood chips? I got plenty.

Plenty to keep me busy, finish up the Fireman for my son, Have a standing order for more Santa ornaments and a few trees, boots, etc. Have a mountian man to carve, An eagle cane to finish, An Eagle for a gentleman, Wolf head for a cane. The cane is ready for the wolf head. Have some Ideas for cottonwood bark.

A few steaks, as many as I can get; a Roast or three or four; back hunches of a couple of deer in the freezer that I didn't get cut up before Christmas season started. A couple of trips to get sassafrass to carve and to smoke meat(yep sassafras makes for some tasty smoked meat). Send in my dues to PETA, People Eating Tasty Animals.

Yeper, busy!

will i always have more projects than i have time for.cane segments to carve for the W3E cane segment exchange, couple of pieces of furniture to finish, and of course numerous carvings in various stages.

i would also like to get started early on Christmas ornaments so i can participate in the exchange next year,if i wait to long i can't carve & paint fast enough.

Got to keep busy on these cold winter days,at least till I can get to the sun & sand in Feb-march.

My list at this time isn't as long as most others but it always seems to get busy. I have a large cross with a hanging linen on it that will have the Apostles Creed carved on it, several robbon abstract carvings to finish, and many chip carvings to do. Two shows I would like to get in this year are the Dayton show and the Congress show.

I'm going to be doing more Santas and ornaments. I would like to learn to make clean cuts and I would love to be able to take some classes this year if I can find one close enough.
