Let's open this Summer Duldrums Carving Show some more. If you don't have photos or scans of what you are working on now go ahead and post something that you do have images of so that we can share our carving styles, themes, and ideas!

So if you don't have a 'Whatcha Carvin" go ahead and post a "What I like to carve!!!" This invitation is especially extended to those of you that come into the forum to read but seldom post. PLEASE join in!

Art, Good Luck with your festival! Love the title of it!
Shamrock, Isn't that the truth! How often have we given a piece away and later ... as it's going out of the driveway thought I should have gotten a photo!

Susan

I've had to stop carving and have started painting. I have about 20 items that need paint....mostly small items. I tried to post a pic a couple of days ago, but kept getting an error message - maybe I will try again tonight.

Mitchell,

Check the size of your image, both in pixel length and in kb weight. If it's too large, say over 400 to 500 pixels in length it might not post. If it's too heavy in weight, say over 50kb again it might not post. Also check the format, I know the forum takes .jpgs and .gifs but am not sure about the other formats.

Hope you are successful this evening.

Susan

"No matter what stage"? How 'bout the "barely messed with and largely ignored stage!" I haven't been carving much these days. I think my writing got jealous of all my attention on carving for the past several months, so now I'm writing and not carving! Heheh. Oh well, I manage to take a couple chips off this weasel now and then.

I haven't taken a picture yet of my "Out of the zone" Carving. No, it isn't out of Cottonwood bark. I am about to finish an Indian Maiden Bust carving out of Basswood. Will post pictures later. However, I have carved several items out of Cottonwood bark and the pictures are still in the digitl camera. Been busy with honey dos but about have them completed.

Bob, Thos are fantastic ships you have carves and love the way the waves are in it also. By the looks, you will be putting some great sails on them soon. Can't wait to see the finish product.

Irish, Love the birds and in butternut. Natual finish should lend to a beautiful relief carving.
Colin, you have a great start and looks to be equally great piece.

I have had to work a lot of overtime and have not had time to carve much lately. When I hit these time I like to keep a tauga nut in my pocket and when I hit the slow times or I have a break at work I chip on these a litttle. I just cut some ovals from some walnut and cherry for my wife. She had some ideas fro some new christmas ornaments. Heres what shes working on.

Greetings,
Had the good fortune to take a seminar with Dave Stetson a few weeks ago. Learned much about facial anatomy but couldn't apply most if it to my Santa. Hope to remember and use what I learned in the future. My first attempt at a rough-out and I'm pretty satisfied. Fact is I have three daughters and now have to carve two more pieces. I will attempt to attach thumbnails.

Lots of nice carvings or start of carving showing up. Bob D reminds me of my son, carving things like that for his wife. My son, 37 yrs old is a minister, and has a black belt in Tai Kwon Do. forgive the spelling, but loves to make swords and fighting sticks. I call him the fighting Pastor. The love for trying to create, is something that is born in us from the beginning. I'm carving a pileted woodpecker, and a Nuthatch, going to place a big black ant right between the two of them. The spring weather has held me back, now its summer, and thats more difficult to contend with. Good job everyone, I've enjoyed looking at all the projects, although Colins did have me wondering??
Monkey And Carvity, you have a lot of wood to remove to get at that beautiful weasel drawn on the block. You have lots of courage.
