Default Whatcha Carvin?

Show and Tell time for everyone!

Go grab your cameras and show us what's on your work table right now. Brand new works, works in progress, semi-painted, and just roughed out ideas ... what ever is on your table now.

Everything and every project is welcome - wood carving, wood burning, wood turning, gourds, canvases, your latest basket weaving .... everything!

Don't have anything on the table? Well, that's ok! Please show us some of the projects you have already finished whether it's your very first or your one thousandth (SP)

This is an open invitation to each and every member and vistor to join the fun of posting to the forum.

My current project: 1 1/2" x 12" butternut practice stick that became a K.I.S.S. angel with basswood wings. KISS = Keep It Super Simple. I used the diagonal of the practice stick across two corners for the line through her shoulders and the other diagonal line to the other two corners for the center line of her face to her hair bun. That gave the twist in the head to the shoulders.

Please, if you haven't posted before this is a great chance to join in the fun.

Susan

I don't have much interesting in terms of WIP's right now since I'm in the midst of a couple of back to back shows. Here's a couple of pieces I just finished in preparation for those shows. The first is a realistic gulf hammock rat snake done in all one piece of maple. The extended neck and head is accomplished by using a side branch. A close up of the detail follows. The third and fourth photos are of a generic colubrid snake done in all one piece of big tooth aspen. It's sculpted from a log of about 8 in. diameter. The last is one of my peeper designs done as a staff in all one piece of wild cherry.

Thanks for the kind words Al but don't ever quit. Especially with a super piece like that musky in the works. You've got a great start on what should be a winner!

Wow - some great stuff out there. Snakes are scary.
Here's a board with a bunch of spoons in progress, and a pic of some little tiny spoons I recently finished. Also, in progress, a project with David Western - designing and carving a spoon together - very interesting and fun! We're doing a blog documenting the process, in case anyone is interested: David Western's Portland Eisteddfod Lovespoon

I'm just getting back into the swing of things. Right now I'm about to paint the faces on a couple of my little dogs. And I need to finish that Al E. Gator (from Gary Batte's "Carving Crazy Critters). Started that one in March and then put it down. I need to get back to it.

And I committed to one or two goats for the Hillbilly Reunion project. I have them cut out ... now I just need to carve them. The one on the right is basswood. The other is mesquite.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through a class project I started in a Vic Hood class. It was a three day class...and there was no way I could keep up, so I tried to do half with the class and kept the other half to do myself...I still couldn't keep up, though.

It's on hold, though, until I have time to finish rewiring and drywalling my shop. I can't even move in there right now...

I don't have a camera but I have several projects going at the same time depending where I am and my mood. I am doing a truck for the group project. I just finished a side view of a green man for a club project from a wci Irish pattern. I am doing a larger greenman for myself from a pattern In one of Irish's book and I just finished a couple seaman and bears from Shipleys book . I am also almost done with Cipa's nativity except for painting they all need to be painted.and of course I also have Jack Prices type carvings in my pocket and car or Shipley's patterns reduced to 2 or 3 inches with me.
