Default Whale bone spoon

Well here is another spoon--Carved from whale bone (natural mortality) from a friend along the coast of Norway. It is 23cm long(about 9 in.) x 5.7cm wide(2 1/4 in.) x 2.5 thick (1 in.).
The smaller carvings are of a squirrel and a firefly. I embedded a marqius cut yellow topaz for the lighted tail on the firefly.

Smokey, I enjoyed visiting your pages on picture trail and seeing your photographs. I don't know where the land of 5 seasons is, but it sure if picturesque! Alaska? but you mentioned Norway....?

The spoon is very interesting and well done. The white color has such a fascinating look to it.
thanks for showing it to us.

um...wow? These are absolutely amazing! That spoon is just sublime! It looks like such an old piece! Congratulations on this! Wow. Now THAT is an heirloom!
What tools are required to carve bones? Do you use just regular carving tools, or do you use power tools?
This is just amazing-and so so inspiring!

Smokey, those are so very nice. I was just talking to my wife about spoons. She wants me to make a salad serving set. Your spoon design is perfect.

I guess it is somewhat of a misnomer to call it "carved"-- when the process is all scrapeing and useing the smallest of jewelry files.

Smokey that is awsome and beautiful, such a work of art. I love stuff like this made from bones and such, like the native americans the way they used everything and did not waste. That was a way of life to be proud about, they knew how to live.

Great work thanks for sharing these amazing pieces with us.

Hi Smokey
Thanks for sharing your beautiful art work, and it is art, the finest, how delicate it looks ,I can not imagine how gentle you have to work on this.
I was wondering what you were doing I could not think that you gave up carving lol

Wow very nice work ,Using bone ,antler ,ivory is very difficult because it is so hard I've read that some soak it in hot water before each carving session.I found an old cow leg bone in a feild When I was hunting a few years ago and I still have it been saving it for something special to make out of it all sugestions welcome
