Whatsthat, in the early 70's when i was first assigned to louisiana EAFB, to keep myself out of bars and honkey tonks, i use to sketch & photograph swamp still life collect cypress knees boil them in 55 gallon drum and peel them like a boiled potato. before that i went through dry peeling, skinning and even using a tater peeler on them small ones, but nothing compairs to boiling them or letting them soak cold in a drumb for a few months, the bark turned loose very easily. I carved many but most of them i made into lamps and sent to the folks in colorado. i been in and out of the state on my uncle sams world tour between vietnam and desert storm, since then retired here, but i still have never went to new orleans Mardi Gras or turkey hunting, "with all the wiggling bush hunters here" I found it safer to drink my pearl pop at home and get my turkey from piggly wigglys.... cheaper by the pound... and you dont have to have a $100. worth of license every year.

No turkey for me either this year. I did find a nice large piece of walnut however. As was said earlier, turkey is cheap; Walnut on the other hand is a good find.

Turkey hunting is at full-throttle up here in the Carolina's too! Gobble-Gobble! I'd say that you got a super catch nonetheless. I had a few knee's about 3/4 the size of your "mammoth" one's a few years back... carved a big basic woodspirit in 'em and they sold easily for $100.00/each. Probably could have gotten more if I'd asked. Good enough for me! I luv those cypress knee's and yours are so huge!!!
