Need I explain BS more?......I digress. Carving with a few buddies provides the means to learn and push your skills further than you might. One may do nose's different, one may paint different, one may have a different tool you never seen, another may be full of..........advice?, yet another may show you what can be done by just having the driving will to carve. Also communication between others keeps your social skills up to date, well some of us anyway. If you are fortunate enough to be close to a few carvers, as we are, I recommend you give it a try. Don't worry about not knowing each other well. If you all like to carve it will happen, so much so you'll look forward to the next meeting.

I assume BS means "basswood strop" lol

I attended several weekly meetings of a carving group in Casa Grande, AZ when I visited my mother-in-law. It was similar camraderie to an evening carving class I took thirty years ago in Pasadena, CA. Not much instruction, but plenty of encouragement.

Hi Ho, I would think you of all people, OF ALL PEOPLE!, would know all about BS.

Pallin, does breaking my stick sound like encouragement?

Stick! I don't need no stinking stick!

Scarry indeed.

As the beginnng carver in the group I can truly say I would most likely be out of woodcarving if it weren't for these weekly meetings. As someone said in some movie,"If you find yourself in a strange country get yourself a good teacher." I'm blessed to have three.

I think it is awesome whenever someone is as fortunate as you are to have a carving club. There are so many carvers that are not. I luckily am also one of the fortunate ones to have a great club to belong to. And am even more fortunate that our club meets twice a week. We are also fortunate that we own our building and lot. I feel very lucky and blessed indeed to have such a club especially being in a small city. And we are a fairly large club around seventy members, although only twenty-five to thirty members are regular active members.

We are also fortunate to be asked to demonstrate at a lot of shows and various events annually. It is so much fun to share with people that may not have ever seen carving or woodburning in person. It is fun to see their amazement and curiosity. And usually the kids have better questions than the adults. lol

I have learned so much at our club not just about the art but about life and relationships. It has been one of the most special experiences of my life. If i have to miss club all week it just throws everything off and doesn't seen right till we can make it there again.

We even have started our first website this year if anyone would like to check it out. I have shared it with some on here already but would love to have everyone share any suggestions they may have for improvement. We are still working the bugs out and trying to develop it more but I think it is a nice little site so far if I do say so myself. lol It is Millstream Wood Carvers.

Thank you for sharing about your club and letting me share about mine. If any of you are ever in our area please stop in and share some chips. And believe me we have plenty of BS so you will feel right at home. lol

Blessings,
Tina

Hi Bob,

It's great that you're able to spend the time carving with friends. As you say, you learn a lot and strengthen the bonds.

I used to go to a friend's house to carve with two other guys. I learned a lot but had to stop when I couldn't drive anymore.
