Default *Watching it Thaw*

This high mtn Elk is carve out of maple{ I wanted it to be carved in a stronger wood} The tree is carved from a scrap board of knotty pine,I had left when I covered our living room walls last year. The rocks under the elk are maple also.

The base which is the background is a large thick chunk of bark,Ive had in my shop for 3 yrs. I had to use my big chisels and mallet to cut it down. The thick black & gray bark was close to 2 1/2-3 inches thick.Very rough!

The Tree is, 8 1/4 inches tall.

The Elk is 6 inches

His antlers are 3 /34 inches long

The bottem base is 14 3/4 inches and tall at 13 3/4 inches

The dripping ice/snow is glue and all painted with Acrylics

This was a really enjoyable carving and I now have enough Elk so tomorrow I will move on to another carving.

I hope you have enjoyed this carving and your thoughts or comments are always welcome. thks' Forrest

Forrest this has to be one of my favorites of yours. I like how you approached this one with separate elements. Very cool!

WOW!!! What an effect on this one, Forrest, ol' friend!! This time, your painting was surpassed by your creativity....the use of the different woods imbedded into the bark and the use of the glue for the melting snow and ice, combined with your incredible painting, created a life-like scene just as the title describes. This one is a beauty, my friend.....one that ANYONE would be proud to own! It's magnificent. Will you take it to the upcoming show in Banner "Elk"? Bonnie
