Default Walnut Eagle in progress

21"x 7.50, Thought some one might like to see my Eagle before I mess it up. It is pretty much roughted out and now for the detailing. I'm not to sure just how much detailing I'm going to do,just as far as my capabilities will take me and at this point I don't know how far that would be. The White Tail is Walnut also. I have a board that is dark on one end and light on the other. I felt by being white it would break up the dark wood. Not used to carving in hard wood so don't know how long it's going to take,I'm in no hurry. Your comments are always welcome. Merle

All I can say is that it looks really pretty at this stage. A big decision here would be whether to detail it or stylize it. WOW! either way I think you have a great piece there, Merle!

Hi Al, That's what I have been leaning toward, Stylize. I'm going to keep shaping till I think it looks OK and then decide. The main thing is to know when to quit. Thanks Al for commenting. Merle

Merle, Black Walnut! Not your usual venue, but have to say its looking good so far, and as far as the tail I love the contrast. Looking forward to seeing which way you go, good luck, even though I'm sure you don't need it, thanks for posting.

Dan

That's a beautiful piece of wood Merle. And I'll bet the finished bird will be too. Keep us posted on your progress.
