Default wahoo more wood!

Electric company sent a tree cutting service to our place to cut down a big ol' boxelder. I am so excited. I had to hobble down there to let them know I carve and would they save the limbs for walking sticks. Yes, sure they said. I counted a good dozen of walking sticks waiting for me.
The left the trunk wich was a good 2 foot across at about 6 foot. So maybe some day a chainsaw can create something in it. Not me tho.

As far as the logs.. well.. theres a wizard in every one of them I'm pretty sure. We'll have to get the wood splitter going right away in the spring before the mosquitoes come out.

PS. I did try to convince them the big ol Ash next to it needed to come down too..but they laughed at me. LOL Oh..and I asked the guy who can identify the trees out there what did I have in that section of woods.. he said other then the few oaks..most of it is Ash.

This is good carving wood..right??

I've never worked with Ash, but I understand it is a decent wood to carve on.

I'm waiting for this big old red cedar to fall down. About 3 feet at the butt end, forks several times at the top, has several large burls I want and about 30 clear, straight feet in the middle.

ly, when it falls, it will go right across a public road and no doubt some fool will turn it all into firewood before I get there with my saw...

Hey, congrats on the wooden winnings!

Your lucky day if I was closer I would be over to get that stump box elder is great carve. BTW is it pink in the center most of the box elder I have seen has pink streaks running through it. If you get a chance to get some Ash (American Rowan) it is great to carve but dont leave it too long it gets really hard when dry.

Listen to Colin! Get that ash when it's green. When it's dry think baseball bats, ax handles, and shovel handles. All are ash.

If ya all lived closer I'd be giving you some chunks of boxelder. There is a 20 foot standing trunk right out my back door yet from that tree that fell two summers ago. We had most of it trimmed down, but left the trunk. There is another huge boxelder that needs to come down before it crashes down on the Cabin out here.

I like carving boxelder with the dremel.. its not as fuzzy I dont think. The branches are nice and straight , and the young ones popping up all around here are nice and straight too. Great for walking sticks.

Yes. This boxelder has a nice bright red dot on each log/stick. Right down the center. Its got a nice smell to it too.

Hey there your not the only lucky one. I had some trees that fell down on my property during a wind storm.
both are poplar trees, I think that one might be big enough to carve a totem pole! the other will be made into tiki for my son.
