Default For a Vikings fan

This was a piece done for a minister friend who was a diehard Vikings fan. I was going to paint him but I liked the wood look on him. Maybe some day I will relent and do him in color.

Great job on the Viking - I'm a fan for these ancient characters as well. I'm surprised I haven't tried to carve one yet. I like the look you gave him.

Thanks all. Patrick and Gene, I will be looking for your version of the piece or your take on Vikings down the road. Perhaps not so amazing, Ash, just one chip at a time.

Hey John, "I'm liking the Viking" sounds a bit corny but it really is a nice carving, I agree, don't paint it. I might put a stain on it tho, I think it would add depth.

Hey Cliff, A Viking to your liking brings the cheers to my ears. Just had to. Thanks.

What would you use to stain it?

John, I was thinking you might ask that question and I think if it was me I'd giove it a shot of walnut, very rich looking and then a couple coats of satin varathane (varnish) whatever you Yanks use to finish with.

John,
I really like your viking. I'm also a life long fan of the team. One thing I would look at is the spot just behind the figure's head. There is a line formed that adds a shadow that draws attention away from your nice work.
