Default How to value Andy Anderson woodcarvings

Our family owns several Andy Anderson woodcarvings and we would like to get some idea of what they may be worth. Can anyone give us an idea of where to begin?

Rick Ferry of Little Shavers has done some appraisal work in the past (I believe).

Do an internet search using "littleshavers".

Mitchell - Thank you for the information. I have sent an email to Rick Ferry and we'll see what happens.

I have 10 of Andy Anderson's carvings and his book. The book says that in the peak of his career in the 1950's, his clients would pay as much as $1500 for a single wood carving.

I was told that the carvings I have were his original carvings of the "Hillbilly Wedding". The "Shotgun Wedding" came later. I wish I knew how to find a buyer.

Any suggestions? I do have pics.

Barbara, You may be able to do a search on Ebay to see what they have sold for in the past.

I just did a quick search on ebay. Didn't see where any had been sold recently. So that may not be an option.

Andy's carvings are difficult to appraise; there was a complete shotgun wedding for sale a couple years ago; the price was $6000.00.

I talked to the owner, Will Hayden, and Harold Enlow about them.
Harold said be careful because this set had been for sale at least 10 years.

I bought my Shotgun Wedding scene for $175.00 and the seller threw in an extra Anderson carving free.

Several Anderson carvings have been sold at auctions in the SW.

It would be nice to know the results of the searchs from people that come here to ask for help. That way we'd have some answers next time.

I just read Bob Duncan's article on Andy Anderson's furniture. We also have furniture bought from Mr. Anderson when my husband was growing up in Espanola NM (north of Tesuque NM, Andy's home). We still have the dining kitchen table with four chairs, the desk with two chairs, a lamp (our bear is climbing the lamp with the hunter sleeping below), and now our grand-daughter (age 4) and the twin bed. There may be another piece still in NM, however we haven't seen it as yet. Actually, none of our children are particularly interested in all the pieces -- Where can we have them appraised? I read in Duncan's article that the Stark Museum had a few pieces. Would that be a place to start? Eventually I suspect that we will need to auction them off. By the way, after 60 years of dirt and grime, Murphy's oil soap is cleaning them back to a beautiful sheen. They had been stored in the horse stalls for years!
