Default Using "Ol' Faithfull"

After a near two year hiatus at the carving bench (for a whole buncha reasons) I finally cleaned up the shop a bit and got things organized enough to get back at working on a relief of the decapod steam engine that served the Ashland ore docks for years.

Stropped up the gouges, dusted off the carving, turned the overheads back on, adjusted the bench a bit and went at it. Then decided that I'd give the fixed blade utility knife a try for working on relief..............WOW, does that thing work for new stops, cleaning up corners and setting undercuts!

Anyway, I'm still a pokey carver but seem to be back on track (no pun intended) so maybe this piece will finally get finished.

Thanks for the idea on the utility knife, Lynn, and thanks to Hi Ho for sending this one along!

Al

Hi Al,

With all the postings from you, I never would have suspected you weren't carving. You've certainly got the knowledge. I'm sure you'll fall right back into it as if you'd never stopped. Looking forward to this relief.
