Default Using Ebay to sell carvings

What's been the success of anyone out there that uses/has used Ebay to sell carvings? Good? Bad? Mediocre? I've looked thru what's available there and it seems to be a LOT of African Folk Art, but not a lot of carving that I'm used to seeing. Can't tell if it's there's no market there or just no carvings available.

Also, Pete LeClair is testing the Ebay waters as well and has one of his own up for auction (item #3501021458) if you're interested.

Brian,
Selling on ebay is really a craps shoot. Sometimes I can see no logic to the ending prices. I have bought valuable carvings for almost nothing; other times very poor carvings sell for incredible amounts.
I noticed there is a strong market for carved pigs of all things.

How an item is listed will have bearing on it's sale price also.
Most of the quality carvings I have picked up at low prices have been listed incorrectly. The owner simply did not know what they were selling.

: E-bay has serious credibility problems in my opinion. I have seen cheap junk listed as 'professional quality'. I have seen this junk selling for less at local 'Import' stores. I agree with Rick about it being a crap shoot, with heavy emphasis on the word 'crap'. I will grant you that there are some reputable dealers who strive to give an honest description but it is purely 'Caveat Emptor'...Buyer Beware. If you buy on E-bay, know the value of whatever you are buying and be prepared to file a complaint against unscrupulous dealers. On the Blacksmithing site I visit regularly, there is a small group of people who really go after the crooks selling 'blacksmithing equipments' by misrepresenting the goods. If you sell on E-bay, stand behind your products and deal fairly with uninformed buyers. Failure to do so will only get you in trouble eventually.

remember that people are looking for bargains on ebay. I tried to sell a carving on there a long time ago, and it only got a couple of views. there is so much to sift through on ebay it waters down the quality items that are on there.
