Hi Gang, I just got a thought from Callynne's post where she did a man carving a bear and it made me think of some of the unusual carvings I have seen. The one that comes to mind was carved by my good friend Ken Sheen who last year took second place with this carving. It is a large carving carved out of red cedar about 6 feet tall and 3 feet across. Ken thought he would do something different and instead of the usual bear with a salmon in its mouth he carved this. Colin

Someone brought a big turning to my shop last year and said I could have It. It sat in the back of my shop for a long time and everytime i had to move the darn thing I threatened to take to the dump. Well I had this customer that I made a walking stick for with a beagles head at the top. He took his beagle for walk every day. One day a couple of weeks before Christmas his wife was in the shop and told us the dog had passed away. She asked me if I could carve a Santa with a beagle. For some reason that turning popped into my mind. I carved it into a folkart santa and my wife painted a scene of him walking the dog up an old road around the skirt. She Later told us it is next to thier fireplace and they keep it out all year long. Goody

Colin....love that concept! Nature reversed! That would make for an interesting series of carvings. Your friend does beautiful work. Bob
