Default Two Small Ornaments

Well I've had a couple weeks off from work and didn't get as much carving done as I had planned, but I did manage to complete two ornaments that I am proud to say, I made up from start to finish. I have been practicing on several different carvings, caricatures, walking sticks, and others that I have taken bits and pieces, from other carvings in an attempt to learn new things.

The idea for these two small ornaments came about while I was working on a caricature and I decided to try to make use of some scrap from another project. I cut them out and smoothed them down and then they both just fell into place. One is an old Army General and the other is supposed to be a Gentleman with a brown Derby type hat. Both are about 2 1/2 inches tall.

Please let me know what you all think of these, whether it is praise or criticism, I'd love to hear from you.

Ten99J4,
good job on these little guys. I did quite a few little guys like this a few years back. You can have a lot of fun doing them and the learning experience is good as well. What kind of wood is that?

Safe carving and God Bless,

Mark

Thanks

I'm not sure what kind of wood it is for sure...it is some wood that I was allowed to remove from a friends property. It is very white wood with a rough bark that peeled off slick during early summer. It resembles dogwood.

Ten I've been doing something similar, ie using up scrap bits and carvings that did n't make it at the time. Wood is expensive in this country so its partly economic but I ALSO HATE WASTE, a Scottish grannie hammered that into me as a child. The ones I'm working on just now are Halloween and xmas tree ornaments. Whatever its all great fun.
