Default Two new projects

The Captain is carved in basswood and stands 14 inches tall. Colin Partridge sent me a picture of a similar carving which inspired me to do this one. Not sure who I should give credit too. He's painted with a variety of acylic browns, oiled, sealed and waxed.
The sign is carved in a 1 inch slab of birch and is 3 ft long and a 12 inches high. An Irish family in PEI run an oyster farm and a family member asked me to carve a sign as a gift. If you can see past the glossy look made with the flash, you can see celtic knots in the corners for boarders and a knot in the middle. I also reliefed a small dory and mounted some carved out oyster shells.

Patrick

PEI stands for Prince Edward Island, one of Canada's Maritime Provinces - near to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Patric, I like them both but that sigh is really something. Was it hard to do the lettering, did you just pick that up or learn from a book. Great work thanks for posting.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

Thanks everyone.

Sharon, if you read any of the Ann of Green Gables books or saw the musical, it helped put PEI on the map. It's not a very big Island but its known for its tourism and red soil.

Feb, the sign making is brand new for me. I read about doing letters from a magazine and had previously carved them using only a V tool. These letters are 99% gouge and a detail knife to clean up the corners. The biggest challenge on this sign were the celtic knots. Here is a better picture of the knots.
