Default Two firsts.

Tried my hand at a native Indian and also some carving knives. The Indian is 5"x 2" and the knives are 3/4 x 5 1/2 " . Both were quit a task for me as I had never native Indian in basswood befor. The knife handles weren't to bad but making my own blades was something else. I had no idea how to go about it and after trial and error I finally got something that looked like a blade. I didn't think it was possible to get a edge to thin. But every time I thought I had a nice edge I would try to cut a peice of basswood the edge crumbled and fell apart. I have an edge now but it didn't get there like I learned from a sharpening vido, so it just boils down to trial and error. Thank for looking Wayne (mj)

Nice work. I want to try making my own carving knife at some point in time. Did you buy a blank or use another piece of steel like a straight razor or something else to form the blade? Thank you for sharing with us. Paul

Those are nice looking knives. Experience is always the best teacher.

Nice job on all your projects! Practice makes perfect. I'm also curious to know what metal you used for your blades. Heard others used hacksaw blades, saws-all blades, and razors. I haven't ventured down that path yet, have been tempted and thought about buying a couple of blanks, but never did.

The blades are made from a saws all blade. I mentioned to a friend that I needed some used blades and he gave me a bunch. I found a place where you can buy the blades for $ 3 and change . Chipping away charges $6 and change for the same blades. I'm not that excited about making the blades but I enjoyed making the handles. I'm not sure if I will make any more , it just means it will that many more I will have to sharpen.
