Default "Two 4 A Dime"

Heres a pair of the little wolves earrings I carved, they are now on thier way to Md. Carving the charm bracelet size wolves isnt that bad,for no two are the same but with earrings they need to be close in size.

I've carved and mailed them from the West Cost to NY and into Canada and now sending one to the UK{Kent England}

Soon,I have to cut back on carving them and get some other of my carving ready for some art shows I do every year plus now,I have a nice space in a neat shoppee in my area and over Christmas it did very well. Need to carve and restock it very soon.

I'll have some of my little wolves on a few sites on line, prices will be higher but I cant go on carving day and nights and mailing them out everywhere. Plus if I ever hear back from the VA,Im sure I will have my hand surgery which also will take some of my time that I wont be carving.

If my wife wasnt working and I had tons of money?? Id just travel to carving shows all over the country and meet the carvers, boy that would be neat!

"But Im stuck in Tn with little wolves bitting at my knees"

As always, your thoughts or comments are welcome.

Forrest

P.S The one good thing about theses little wolves? You dont have to feed them like puppies till they have a good Home for into a paded env. with a thank you note and my business card and they are Gone!

Forrest,

I hope to be able to be selling carvings eventually. I seem stuck with how to go about it. I am intimidated at trying to sell them on Ebay, and I don't know where else to try. Not ready to set up my own website yet, so I guess it is on the back shelf for now. Anyway. Your stuff is great as always. Keep it up.

Mark

Mark I moved here from down in Mphs and I had to learn everything to carve about this area{Plus I had to teach myself to carve}I was only painting in Mphs and I saw real quick, something carved would sell better than just paintings here in East Tn/Nc. I had to learn what a bear, trout, coverbridges, gristmills, mtns, the different types of houses/cabins and barns looked like up here, for in Memphis,I only painted the old Southern items as River Boats and Cotton which I did good at it for 13 yrs till I got sick.

Go set up in any shows you have in your area, you will learn which ones are best for you and later only set up at them. With your carving you can sell,I know for my carving arient all that.

The main thing is let the public see and know you and you will be carving and taken in some consigment works very soon. Getting in shops are tough I must amit.
I hope this might have helped you some Mark and thanks for stopping to view theses earrings and I appreicate your nice thoughts.

Forrest

P.S Ebay will cost you more money than its worth!! Try--> Esty.com is alot cheaper.
Any on line sites will cost you and Id ratter sell at shows myself, simple at shows you can take in some consignment work very easy where on line sites you can't...........I have and still do several consignments jobs for people for once you have done something for someone, they will show it to "everyone" they know! On line that wont happen Plus shows you pay to attend it but you are not paying tons of shipping fees and other cost that site charges you. The main thing,is learning what show you do well at and dont attend the ones you dont sell that good at.

I ran here and there and paid out to stay in hotels, etc but now I only attend 2 shows a year and they are very good to me with out all the other cost. All Im saying is get out in the public, for no one can sell your carvings like YOU can!!

Love the little earrings Forrest! You are really an inspiration! Sounds like great advice on selling carvings. My dad sells his turned pens and things at craft fairs and has got quite the following now. He's in an RV group and does pretty good selling to the people in it also.Someone always wants a birthday or Christmas present. Thanks for sharing your carvings and other knowledge.

Great work Forrest Thumbs Up, the color is excellent have you tried a timber wolf color yet? grey and black what is the wood you used for these? Sorry if I missed it somewhere.
We had three timber wolves on our road behind the house the other night about 400 yards from the house. I will tell you they have got some big a** feet.

Sharon,I set up EVERY wk in Memphis painting all the tole items from thimbles to a bathtub! I painted for couples then thier grown children and even thier granparents bought me old items they wanted painted.I did so much consigment work alot of times I didnt have much in my booth to even sell, but half down and the blance the following wk was good enough for me. Plus when someone walked into my booth,Id make deals! I didnt collect my painted items,I collected money for say that Monday after a wk end show, heck I might had a water bill due or my children needed this or that. I didnt play around,I made money! LOL
I bet your dads pens are really neat! Only thing I can turn is my covers over me at bed time! LOL
Thanks so much,Im a woman?? I think,I'd ratter call you a "Lady" that knows how to carve!

Forrest

Carl, theses are carved from some hard water Maple then I stain them which high lights thier details. The reason I use the hard maple is it wont break with the smallest carved items as all four of thier legs, ears, tail are carved with the proper spaces between them.I also carve some in hard red mahagony.I wouldnt know a timber wolve from a tom cat?? Wait a min. a timber wolf must love carving like we do is how he got his name------timber/wood

Thanks Carl for stopping to ck theses out and Man I like your knives you are making!! Koolllllll~
