| | Tsunami Relief Hello Everyone,
It seems like everywhere you turn the past few days, all you see is the increasing death toll for the tsunami in Southeast Asia. Entire villiages were wiped out, so there are not even any survivors to count the dead!
Our Fox Foundation has donated to the Menanite Central Committee for disaster relief. The MCC works with many of these villiages through their Ten Thousand Villiages program, which works with villiage cooperatives to sell crafts and coffee. The same trucks that visit these cooperatives to pick up products are now delivering relief materials to the villiages. Bottled water has already been delivered and more help is on the way.
We had talked about a friendship cane a while ago, but (ashamed) I got busy and put it on hold. The disaster inspired me, though, to bring the idea out. At the time, we had talked about each doing a section assembling them, and auctioning it off for charity. Is anyone interested in participating? We decided to use a 2" x 2" x 2" block with a 3/8" hole drilled in it. here or send me a private message if your are interested!
Thanks.

Are your dimensions right? I have some precut blocks and I think they are 2x2x3 - being a little "taller" than what you have listed. No biggie, I can cut an inch off.

| | Re: Tsunami Relief Bob...the sizes are 2x2x3 and a 5/8's hole...I'm in. About 16 makes a decent stick, then you need a turner to do a bottom finial and a top piece. |

| | Re: Tsunami Relief While I think this is typical of the generosity of woodcarvers, I don't believe this is the best use of our time and money.
Perhaps I am looking at it through a businessman's eyes, but I think we would be more effective just each sending a five dollar bill or check.
I believe we all have enough confidence in Fox Chapel to trust the money would go where it will do the most good.
Just my opinion, Rick |

| | Re: Tsunami Relief Hi All,
Count me in! I just finished a Santa head in a cane block, so it is ready to go, I also have some "Leclaire" style heads carved on cane blocks that I can send now. So just give the details and let's do this!

| | Re: Tsunami Relief I agree with rick insofar as sending a donation.my thinking is the time involved in coordinating the completion of the friendship cane and then the time to auction it off. that being said if you decide to proceed let me know and i can send a foot and handle(drilled for 5/8'' dowel).its made and ready to go.as for a topper one segment could be only partially drilled.
