Default Tool Collections and the Inevitable

I have not visited Littleshavers in a while; but, ran across a reference, here on the Forum, noting that Rick now has a "pre-owned section" of tools. Out of curiosity I clicked on the link thinking that this is something interesting. I found it to be far more than that……..

Rick explains that he is attempting to provide a service to “those who no longer are able to carve” and, at the same time to offer an opportunity to those of us who still can. This area of the Ozarks has become a retiree Mecca which pushes the average age of Club members (woodcarving and others) right on up there. Each year our Club sees at least one member reach the point of giving up carving. Unfortunately, we also end up assisting widow(er)s who have to dispose of tool and equipment collections. This can be difficult for the one who lost someone and equally daunting for the one assisting with the sale.

I, along with others, have gotten some real bargains through this process. The owner has been satisfied with just not having to deal with the tool sale. But, getting someone to assist with the sale can be hard to do and is aided only by the pot being sweetened with the first opportunity to purchase the good/wanted stuff.

Rick is offering a service that is needed by woodcarvers, those of us still carving and those of who…for whatever reason….won’t be continuing with this wonderful avocation.

I, for one, want to say Thank You Rick!!

Paul, I had a thread on a subject close to this a while back. I have a huge collection of Henry Taylor tools and Buck Brothers traditional tools as well as many power tools and chainsaws. I want my things to be used by a carver when I no longer need them. I have bought old tools from a carvers family member that told me they were old lathe tools. I bought some tools just to give them a home a carvers home. I don't need anymore gouges but I cant allow them to be misused. I will leave my tools to a deserving woodcarver or clear directions for my daughter.
