Default I took Lynn’s advice

I see that Lynn’s thread on copying has resurfaced. I remember when it was first posted. Here’s what I took from it then and what still applies. Watch Lynn and others, learn from them and apply their (generously) shared skills to your own creations. That’s just what I did. The guy on the left is my Chimney Santa. I probably carved a hundred of them. The one in the middle is a variation. He has legs instead of a chimney. I carved those over a dozen years ago. The one on the right is same pattern that I carved this weekend. The only obvious difference is the beard there are others as well. I carved it with a utility knife; I burned the lines between different areas and used multiple washes instead of just one solid color.

Thanks Lynn and everybody.

One more thing… my original pattern… I think it was based on one of Tom Wolfe’s.

We gain inspiration and idea's by watching or observing others. Sometimes it takes a while to become inspired. Sometimes all it takes is to look at one piece to ignite a flame of passion... I do agree with Lynn on copying. Imagining originality is not that hard. Its often born of mistakes, or inspiration by observation wether related or unrelated to the subject... This is how modern day society came about... It was a ladder of inspiration to get to where we are today... The same can be said of woodcarving.....
Sincerely Rob (Lazy C.)
