Default too simple

I am doing a piece with a piece of bark that looks like waves. I wanted to add some birds flying above the waves. I could see it exactly in my minds eye. I used different species of wood and made several of difference sizes. they were just bent Vs basically. mounted them on the bark with a thin piece of wire and thought I was done.
Showed the wife and she said it was not good because it looked like kindegarten kids had made the birds. They were too simple. I thought about it but I cant make them any more difficult or detailed and keep the minds eye look I have.

Has anybody else ever found that the easiest simpliest approach is sometimes the best?

I'd say it all depends on who you are trying to please: your wife, yourself, a paying customer...? One person's "simplistic" concept can be another person's "laziness" concept, so "it all depends"...

Claude,
You dont know my wife. Its her way or the highway.
I use her as my "general public" sound board.
I never ever (well hardly ever) agree with her but she makes me look at things differently. as a matter of fact I am going to carve a small (2") soaring seagull this evening and see if I can get it past her. so far I actually threw the 9 simple birds away and replace them with dolphins. so I will try to sneak a bird for the horizon.
wish me luck.

Sounds like you've got a tough judge there but it's always good to get someone else's opinion...good luck.

Right on, John!! I love my wife and consider her opinions of great value, but I totally hate the one of two choices scenario. In the end it will done so that it satisfies me first. Anyone else's approval is just icing on the cake.
