Default Tobacco pipes...anyone made one?

I love a good tobacco pipe and have been thinking of making my own. While researching the process, I was glad to see that there is some carving involved while shaping the bowl. Anyone here ever made a tobacco pipe themselves?

I've carved a few and they even smoked good. It's a lot of fun, but, briar is pretty hard to work with and you need to work harder sharpening than actually carving.
There is (was?) a place called PIMO that I ordered stuff from. They changed hands a few years back, but, I think the name stayed the same. You can order rough burls, pipe stems, tools for forming tenons, and all kinds of other stuff for a fairly good price. You might check with google to see if they're still around.
Good luck and post some pics when you get going.
Dan

I made one from an apple branch.
Chared it then smoked it 3-4 times before giving to my Brother In law.
