Default time carving

at our little carving group this morning we talk about time spent carving which for most of them was 4-6 hrs a week.
from the post i have read here a lot of you spend a lot more time at it.
so how much time do you spend carving per week?

Counting research and study it comes to the 4 to 6 hours you referenced. Except, it's 4 to 6 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week. It'd be more except I also have fishing and golf that I have to allocate time for. Life is tough!

James,
With me it depends on the season in winter I will spend probably 3 to 4 hours a day carving on average of course there are days when I dont carve at all not too many though. In the summer I spend sometimes 10 hours a day carving if the weather is good I have seen me on one commission carve from sun up to sun down because I wanted to finish it and to return to where I was carving it (Kapuskasing Ontario) it would be a twenty hour round trip.

It really depends on the time of year for me.....

In the spring and summer, I hardly carve at all. In the fall, I pick it up and will spend about 4-5 hours/week carving. In the winter I will get up to 20 hours during some weeks.

I am trying to dedicate more time to carving now - especially since I have moved and have more carvers nearby to associate with. I just joined a local club and there are some carvers that meet twice a month to carve together. It's really helped motivate me more.

I am fortunate to spend 2-3 hours per week. Too many other things in life like working, family, etc.

Since retirement I have carced more in 3 months than I did the previous 3 years. Depends on what I have going one. But lately, I allocate 3 to 4 hours a day. Well, that isn't spent just carving. A lot of researching drawing selection of wood, gutting the wood then carving. A lot of my carving latelyt has bee smaller items, pin size up to a relief carved rose rose that was approximately 12x10x1 inches.

Well I am not able to work
I cannot sit or stand very long at a time
So I carve off and on all day
Considering everything and staining and finishing
and actual carving
Probably somewhere around 5 hours a day

I carve for 15 to 20 min and then go rest a while
and then go carve

For me I like have at least 1/2 hour each day either carving or something related to the subject. Alot depends on the project I'm working on. Other time is spent on research
or design.

More than I had been but less than I want to!! I probably get in about an hour or two in the day and another hour or two in the evening.
Weekends are great if we don't have too many other things going on, I can work for longer stretches with less interruptions. One thing for sure, the more I get to carve the happier I am! Callynne

I train brand new truck drivers on how to handle a truck in the real world not school.
So after they get over their nervessness about being in a 'big truck' i probably get 7-8 hrs a week while i sit in the passenger seat and they drive. I split the driving 50/50.
I have an air hose that i blow the chips out the truck when we stop.
