I had a huge surprise last night when I got home from work. My birthday isn't until next week, but my wife couldn't wait with her surprise. She had converted one of the spare bedrooms into a carving room for me. Inside she had bought a Veritas Carver's Bench, which is totally awsome. She also found my wish list in my carving notebook and bought every gouge I had listed on it (20 in all). I could go on, but this was a total surprise. She said she did it so she didn't have to yell out to the garage when she need me. What a gal. Cheers Rick |

You are one lucky ( & spoiled) guy! ..that was a very cool 8) thing for your wife to do. I wonder if she realizes that now she will be spending time following you & your 'chip' trail around the house with the dustbuster? : oh well, I think it's better than all that hollerin' out to the garage. ![]() Hey, Happy ..almost Birthday!!! ...and, hmmm...I think you are onto something with the wishlist/carving notebook. |

Rick, I would wish you a happy birthday, but it looks like you already have one. But are you sure she didn't want you closer to the dishwasher and vacuum ? |

Thanks for the wishes....Rick I think you may be on to something here. I gave that bench a work out last night, and it is a cats meow. Here is a link to check it out. She did all the research on it. I didn't even know it existed. http://www.woodworking.org/WC/GArchi...rincarver.html. Anyway now I have to think of some way to top her surprise for her birthday this May. Cheers Ric |

Happy B-day from another Rick. My wife also lets me carve in the house. We bought a new house 3 years ago and my office is the spare bedroom. I carve in there, but got stopped short when I tried to take my 9' bandsaw in there this winter. Rick |

My wife enclosed a part of the garage for my birthday this year. She also bought a real fancy heater that swivels and now when I come in from carving I'm not blue.

It's great to see that kind of support from your wife. I know my wife puts up with a lot of little frustrations when it comes to my carving. But she got me my bandsaw, dust collector and featherburner For Christmas and birthdays when I started out. I decided it could have been one of the following reasons. It was either because she loved me, or my carving hobby keeps me out of her hair?

YEEEHAW! What a bench. Isn't it wonderful to have a wife who knows how to buy her spouse a gift! My wifes the same way except she just tells me to go and buy it. Now if can only keep her out of my tools... ![]() Enjoy your birthday, and trust me keep the dustbuster handy. |
