| | Three more woodspirits Hi Gang,
I seem to be getting back into the carving thing again I guess it was the winter blues. It can be pretty cold up here in the great white north and because most of my carvings are pretty big I have to do them outside. Now the nicer weather is here I can get outside again.
I have posted three pictures on the Carver Galleries page they are all about three or four feet tall and all carved out of eastern white cedar. Hope you like them and as you know comments yea or nay are always welcome here its the only way I can get better.

| | Re: Three more woodspirits YEA, Colin's got his groove back!!! Well done son, they look great. I love the second photo, it looks like the Spirit behind is offended that the foreground guy is getting all the attention! We should have a labelling contest!!! Great job on them Colin. I am very happy to see you carving again.

| | Re: Three more woodspirits Colin! Their expressions are fantastic! I can't decide which one I loved the most ... but I think it's the one looking so surprised with those great big eyes. That is on great job.

| | Re: Three more woodspirits I really like the first one with the slanted "swishing" mustache. That just seems to give it that little something special so if this woodspirit were a part of speech I'd say that it was a verb, for "action". (A little different analogy but hey, I'm a school teacher!)
The second woodspirit would be an adjective since it seems to give the descriptive impression of concern. The third one would have to be a noun since it reminds me of a thing such as the rigidity of a statue in the town square.
I would bet that Brandon thinks he has the most amazing gramps that a kid could have... and he's probably right! |

| | Re: Three more woodspirits I agreethey are 3 great figures but I have to disagree with lightningbolt. The third one isn't a noun for something such as the rigidity of a statue in the town square, Its an image of time itself . I can't decide if he is fading in or out but I think it it great.Even better than your Einstein. I thought I had seen everything you had put in the gallery but somehow I missed another great one in the OLD MAN WOODSPRITE
Then its the second guy who has a real grouch going.
Now a question for you spirt carvers- do you ever carve a head tilted? Does it work against the form of the tree or just look odd? Or I have just not noticed it being done? Don |
