| | Third mushroom finished Hi Gang,
I just finished the third in the series of mushrooms. I stained the woodspirit and then did the rest in a white stain. Not sure I like the white stain. So I am asking your opinion. Would you do them all like this one or stain the whole mushroom the same color as the woodspirit. Or would you do the others with a lighter stain for the mushroom. I first thought that mushrooms are usually pure white so that it why I did the back ground stain in white. I would appreciate your opinions ASAP as I have to stain the other two before tomorrow.
Thanks in advance

| | Re: Third mushroom finished I like it, but I agree, with Staining one color or the spirit darker or lighter. The white is too strak. well to me but I do like your mushrooms. But then it is up to the customer eh?
Those mushroom are Great Colin. It still amazes me how you get so much expressions in your spirits. Show the true form of a great artist/carver. |

| | Re: Third mushroom finished Kenny ,
I will disagree, since they will be outdoors the sun and the weather will age the white pretty quickly , and should be perfectly toned before the end of next year.

| | Re: Third mushroom finished I know the little cap mushrooms you buy at the store are white, but most of the ones in my yard are more tan-beige or even gray.

| | Re: Third mushroom finished Hi All,
Great carving there Colin. My vote would be to go with a light tan or an off white. Most of the mushrooms I see in the markets here are kind of speckled tan over an off white.
Thanks for sharing your work.

| | Re: Third mushroom finished Thanks guys I was thinking the same thing that they were too white. But as Ash says by next year in the sun and rain they will probably turn that faded off white color. Here are some pictures of them as of now. I am still undecided so I am going to take them as they are and if the customer wants any changes they can let me know tomorrow. By the way they have also commissioned be to do a large double woodspirit for the same garden as well. I start work on it tomorrow on site so I will post some pictures of the progress.

| | Re: Third mushroom finished That is what makes the world go around, difference of opinion.
Like I said, It isn't up to me, I just gave an opinion. Is it what the customer wanted, I am not the customer, but if I was, no white, and if it had to be, then all white. Then they would fade evenly and not one color on top and other on the bottom.JHMO
Best to you Garry |

| | Re: Third mushroom finished I'll vote with Chahlie. Carving is great but I personally don't care for the seemingly bright white tone. JMHO

| | Re: Third mushroom finished Thanks guys just to let you know I agree with you completly. It is white stain so if they are not right I can bring them home and stain them again all one color. I dont know what the customer wants they didnt tell me just carve us some unique mushrooms was all they told me. Everytime I look at them now I find the same as you.
TOO WHITE!!!
