Default They could become spoons

My wife and her friend have a hobby making jewelry. They needed a tool called a Dapping block used to form pieces of metal into concave bowl shapes as they're hammered out. Her friend looked around the web and found several in a range of prices. Well my wife in all her infinite wisdom said she knows a guy who owns the Woodworking Studio and he could probably make them this tool for them. So she contacted him on a SUNDAY of all days and he AGREED to make this for her.
So in the middle of a Liturgical project he is working on he chopped off this piece of rock Maple 6 1/2 X 6 1/2 X 4 inches thick and in the span of 20 minutes ,,using only one chisel a Swiss made # 5 12 I think he said,,made this dapping block for her. I thought Maple would be a great wood for a spoon,,and the shapes aren't far from what is needed. These here could be a small spoon to what could almost be a ladle and how much would it take to cut these out and make 4 spoons ? Or just add a handle to this block an you'd have a 4 way spoon all in one! ( pretty clever 'eh?).
Now these arent sanded at this point as you can see,,and they don't really have to be. Besides I thought I could save some money and impress my wife at the same time by doing this part of the job myself. Besides I shudder to think what my wifes bill will be after having this done on premium Sunday time. Oh man this is gonna hurt!

I did manage to snap a few pictures as he was working. In the first you get an idea of the sizes of bowls that were made..and in the second I didnt' even have time to focus the camera as the work happened so fast but they are all half the depth of a quarter,,and then just the last pic showing some of the chiseled finish.

Now that this job is completed,,I'm taking the rest of the day to visit the local museum which is having a French exhibit....From Matisse to Monet. Yeah,,I know you will tell me that these guys are dead along with Michelangelo,,,but hey,,,the artist in me still likes to think I might learn something besides what current "living" artists can teach me.If not,,I might just simply enjoy looking at some art. Yup,,call me a fool.

That's an interesting idea. Hope you see something inspiring at the art exhibit. I might recognize Monet from some projects my girls did in H.S. - otherwise somehow I missed out at that age. Never too old to learn though!

OK,,,it's fairly late for most,,,but the art exhibit just blew me away. I had a ball!!!
Of course don't I always. If I don't it's not worth doing ,,right?
Besides my wife "paid off" the carver with a great Italian lunch after the exhibit. $120.00 bucks seems like a fair trade ,,,some food and a great bottle of wine for a carving. I'd call it a win-win situation. Six bucks a minute,,,I think the carver did OK and my wife made a great deal.I'm proud of her.

And I'm really stuffed!

A great Sunday was had by all.
