Default TheKing is finished

Well he's dome, I can't say that I'm totally pleased but it's my first carving of a real person. I decided against painting so I sealed it with a matty finish then i soaked it good with linseed oil and wiped it off. when that dried Iput on 6 coats of Deft satin. then I used johnsons pastewax dark for the hair and brows and clear for the face and shirt. I feel that I have learned a lot from this project and I am already planning another maybe Dale Earnheart. As always your comments are welcome. Oh, the portrait is 8x12" and the background is 11x16" Thanks for looking

Hi Feb,

Let me be the first to congratulate you on a very fine first portrait carving. Real faces are very difficult and you were able to capture the essence of the man. Good job.

Um....Feb...maybe I'm missing something here, but I thought BB King was an African-American... your carving looks more like Elvis!

Let me add my congratulations on a fine job. That would be scary to try to capture a likeness...and you did very well. Earnhardt would be a great next project.
