I was in the Doctor's office last week and looked over a chart of the muscles (human of course) and thought that I would like to have something like that of birds. Here lately, I have tried to answer some basic questions on woodcarving terminology, techniques, and tools. I think there is certainly a need and, I suspect an opportunity, for some teaching aids. We are all familiar with the castings of eyes, noses, birds feet, etc. BobD has been working on the name tag thing and there has been a lot of interest. What about laminated charts showing the different gouges, woodcarving teminology, illustrations of basic cuts. Those of us who do a little teaching would certainly be interested. I suspect that they would also find value as decorations in shops. What do you think? Last edited by Paul_Guraedy; 03-11-2009 at 08:43 AM. Reason: spell check |

Great Idea Paul. I've never seen any aids like this for the carving world.

Hey Paul, what a great idea. But why not take one step further. I'm a new member on this site. And almost everday I read about someone new that hasn't a clue as to what tool to use for what. That's not only people who want to carve with knifes but those of us who power carve as well. You know like what's the differance between a bit and a burr. That kind of thing.. It took me years and quite abit of money to know what to purchase and what not to. Great idea of yours go for it.

I think its a great idea! I sure could use some. How about a dedicated page (like back page) of WCI mag that can be copied and laminated? Or is this not what you had in mind? I sure would like to know what all those different sharpening stones are and how to use them. I've been putting off purchasing gouges because the numbers just dont click with me. |

Me too, thinks it's a great idea.i was researching carbide burrs and came across a company that had a page on bur applications. It showed what different cuts burs will make.I printed it out and will put it in a folder for reference. It was abrasives4sale.com.I haven't bought any burs from them ,but the info was real good.
