Default Tahing Wood Back to a Tree

When I saw the tree on that glass door it impressed me and wanted to know if I could do it, not on a door, but the idea. I found that it is more to it than I expected, but fun. It is 8"x21"x1", Basswood, finished with Teak Oil, PolyU,Dark Watco Wax, and Feed-N-Wax. It's gone already, the Wife has a spot in the Living Room for it, so it passed her inspection and that's what counts, makes my day. Merle

Beautiful piece, Merle. We haven't seen many pierced reliefs on this site.

Hi Phyllis, it was a fun piece,it made me think alot. I didn't have the size wood to make it in one piece,so had to glue 2 short pieces across the middle. I cut grooves across each joint and inserted dowel rods. That worked out OK, but it got a twist from bottom left corner to the top right corner from removing so much wood. The mirror that I ued was thin sooo i had to back it with a backing board to keep it from breaking when glued to the tree. So far it's holding, time will tell. Ha,Ha. If you try doing it use one piece and you will have a lot less problems. Merle
