Default Sweet Success!

Hey Everybody!

I'm really excited to show you my newest carving; I hope the pics come out!

Sunday night, my brother earned his PhD from Rutgers University. They're having a party for him in a couple weeks and I wanted to give him something special. I've known all along I wanted to carve him a graduate, but last time I tried, I got frustrated and turned him into a pumpkin head Halloween carving. Actually, there was quite a resemblance, but that's not important right now!

It dawned on me that maybe I could carve him a mini graduate, where I wouldn't have to worry about carving a face. From there, I looked up vintage graduate figurines on Ebay, and saw an old cake topper in the shape of a graduate. That's when the idea came to make my own graduate, on top of a cupcake, to resemble an old cake topper. On the cake, I have a little tag that says, "Sweet Success".

I had to do a lot of researching to see how the Rutgers gown looked. Luckily, I was sent some pictures of my brother, but had to research how the gowns looked on the back by getting onto the Rutgers website. My little graduate stands about 5-6 inches tall and holds a diploma. The cake is made from an old wood kid's block that I bandsawed round and "frosted" in faux snow! It's decorated in vintage glass pearls and paper flowers. I cemented the whole thing to a little plate.

I can't wait to give it to him, but for now, it's a surprise. But, I had to show somebody!!

Jillsy

Thanks!

I don't know what my problem is. My characters ALWAYS wind up leaning to the right a little. Wonder if it's because I'm right-handed?
