| | Sumac spirits by the dozen Hi Gang,
Have to tell you that fall has started here in Canada. All the leaves are starting to turn especially the sumac. They are always the first to turn and are a crimson red. I went out today to harvest some sumac to do some woodspirits. Well pealing them was really hard the sap has already turned to glue and sticks like all get out. I checked my box of woodspirits that I take to the shows and found I only had one left. That means that I have sold over 300 of them this year and I have run out. Here is how I carve them I carve them all on one limb and then cut them off. Busy, busy that is me with benches and tree carvings and getting ready for open house I dont know where I am going to find the time. Now my good lady says if I didnt spend so much time on this silly message board I would get more done. Hmmm maybe she has a point.

| | Re: Sumac spirits by the dozen Very clever idea. Even so, 300 is a lot of woodspirits.
I can see why they sell well.

| | Re: Sumac spirits by the dozen Colin,
I have to tell you after a week on a chain saw , I have a whole new concept of the art.
I noticed that many of our trees have started turning as well, look to be an early fall. Nice way to do the spirts I am looking forward to meeting you at the open house.

| | Re: Sumac spirits by the dozen Wow, Colin, 300!! My question would be, when do you find time to be on this message board?!! 300....that just boggles the mind, what with all the other things you carve. Do you ever sleep?! Deborah |

| | Re: Sumac spirits by the dozen Callynne,
My guess is the 300 "little" sumac wood spirits are the results of Colin dreaming about wood spirits--and carving them--in his sleep!
Great ingenuity, Colin--and real nice work, too! |

| | Re: Sumac spirits by the dozen Sleep what is that? As I speak my three grandchildren are waking up in the other room. I look after them most of the time as their parents work shift work. We are going to have breakfast and then I have a commission to finish up, a cane segment to finish, another two commissions to start on, clean my workshop, clean the garage, hockey practice, grass to cut, pool to close, honey do list a mile long. Sleep who has time to do that. Oh did I mention I have a whole bunch of sumac spirits to carve and finish. What the heck am I doing on this message board? |
