Default suggestions for carving a table edge

My next WW project is a large round dining room table top (83" diameter). I'd like to dress the edge up a bit more than just a routed edge. I figure I'll start with routing the edge and then embellish it from there. I've seen some tables with a kind of scalloped edge that look like more than I'd care to attempt. I'm thinking of something like a rope edge but with vertical valleys instead of diagonal - more like a daisy's petals than a rope. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for how to do this that will increase my odds of success? The amount of edge I have to carve has me worried about consistency, not to mention just plain old quality.

Thanks!

Take a look at the molding beneath the shell in this picture. I did this on a bed years ago. It is a modified rope molding. one strand being convex the next one being concave. Really not that difficult (once you figure it out).

Yes, I also carved the shell.
