We cut down a tree right next to our patio; but I saved the trunk up to a height of about 5', thinking I wanted to carve something out of it or use it for a unique purpose (table stand, lamp stand, etc. . .) It is under cover as we have now built a patio cover over the patio. The trunk has a radius of about 5"-6" (the trunk is about 10" thick +/-) Any suggestions/ideas on what to do are appreciated. . . |

Hi Sitabjr, Your tree trunk poses endless possibilities, only limited by a persons immagination and carving skills..... so what ever you can think of, you could create. Perhaps you could carve something in the theme of your graden....if it has a particular character. Some can be magical, some contemplative, some on the Olde English style, or French Louis XIV style, perhaps an Oriental flavor. A free form sculpture or tree spirit would be nice. A leaping fish, a bird, a squirrel, a ferrett, a mouse, a beaver, a bear, a moose, an eagle or hawk......etc! Dragons are nice, or a fairy! Perhaps a bust of a person, or a Celtic knot. A towering castle would be a challenge, or a Princess who inhabits the tower another! Gnomes, trolls, knights, braves, ....... the list is endless. Have fun with it! Bob

Have to agree with Bob. But I think you might want to consider what your life style might include. I mean say you like to sit out on the patio and enjoy the company of a few friends and enjoy a few glasses of wine... you could easily turn it into a wine rack. , Cut down into the top and drop a ice bucket into it and you could have a chiller with the wine bottles supported underneath. If it is close to where you like to BBQ , you could cut into the top and place smoke chips into the top to be added to your BBQ. Then lower cut a small spice rack area , and depending on the way you set it up , you could make a holder for your BBQ equipment. For the beer lover , you could eaisly make a beer cooler . For bird lover perhaps a bird feeder or bird house on top with a wood spirit for protection below. Think of what would suit you and your lifestlye and But what ever you do, protect the wood from infestation. Nothing would more of a pain than , going to use your patio and finding out you now have a termite infestation , or other unwanted vistors, which could make your patio a very unpleasant place. Ash |

Ash: Thanks so much. . .excellent suggestions. Particularly the wine rack and/or beer cooler (you can see where my preferences lie. . .) This will be fun. It may very well end up being the most ornate coozie in South Texas. . . Thanks, again |
