Default Story of a carving

Hi Gang,
Got this e-mail and while I couldn't help the gentleman, I thought perhaps someone here could.

Quote:
I have owned this statue for about 6 years.. Purchased at a local swap meet here in Tucson, AZ. ..Purchased from Mexican Americans that could barely speak English.. asked them at the time if there was any "story" behind it and they said they would check with the party they bought it from.. a week later I asked them if they were able to find anything and they gave me a small piece of paper that was obviously not written by either one of them... I knew these people quit well and I know that they can not write English... Stated in good English/well written that this statue stood in the ticket office of Yankee Stadium until it was renovated about 40 - 50 years ago.. It stands about 5' tall on stand.. has been painted over at least once... The word "CASEY" on his butt... the extended hand/arm holding the ball is an original separate piece of wood affixed with wooden dowels to his side. I can find no markings as far as an artist is concerned.. I just came across your website and would like to find out more about this guy... any help would be appreciated.. Thanks Again, Ted Hays

I think Casey Stengel (not certain of spelling) led the NY Yankees to a pendant several times in the fifties.

He managed both the Mets and Yankees, and others.
